Freedom Points is a new feature in the forums. With them you can later e.g. change your chat color in the freedom forum chat
Or the business idea: Freedom! trys to reach a higher number of active users in the forum and more posts
Because users wanna have the highest credit count, they post to reach the legendary 1000 Coins thats a simple psychological strategy but its only working for a certain time, after that users lose there interest in these coins. This is the Point where Freedom! will offer you something for your amount of coins, colors in the chat, maybe a special rank (not so effective) or something really useful for these users So what are they doing: They motivate you to write and interact with the community. And for that, they giving you something later back

Well if you haven't read the thread provided to you by @Piano Uncovered yet then I have to say that @Der Sky summed things up pretty nicely. They are basically a way for us as the community team to promote more meaningful interactions on the forums and be able to transfer this into things for you.
