Hi Everyone & welcome to my Ultimate Guide to Advertising your channel and the content you create!

Hopefully the advice I give will help you to recognize the type of content creator you are, understand your target audience a bit more, learn to create targeted video titles / description / tags as well as advertising outside of YouTube.

First we'll start with understanding the targeted audience

When creating videos on your YouTube channel it's always worth finding out the type of people you'd like to target e.g. the gender (if not all), what age group will they be, consider the length of videos (attention spans), type of videos they engage with more (tips/guides / montage / lets play / reviews etc).

If you're wondering where to find out this information you can set up an google Analytic Account which helps find this type of information over time as people watch your videos. Ideally first you should jot down some ideas of the audience on a note pad so you can always look back on it when creating content, here's a link on how to link analytics to your youtube.

Knowing the type of content creator you are

This is more for self note again helping you remind yourself before you create videos just like mentioned with your targeted audience, you should consider the styles of editing you'd like to use in your videos that work well with keeping a viewer entertained and engaged.. as for commentary you should test what topics and subjects people like listening about or the humor you'd use.

Targeting viewers with Thumbnails / Titles / Descriptions and Tags

I'd advise to use two resources to help you with this with the first being HeartBeat and the second VidIQ and both of these will help you to research the top keywords and descriptions used in videos for example, VidIQ once installed allows you to search a bold term such as a game name, once searched in the right hand corner it shows the top used keywords and Rising.

So first lets look at any game such as Battlefield 4, the top content creators use video titles that describe their video in draft e.g.
  • Battlefield 4 [Kill Streak] (Madness)
  • Battlefield 4 [Best Guns to use] (with commentary)
  • Battlefield 4 [Best Guide] (wont need another!)
These are just good examples to use which help best describe your video with the game name on there, main point of the video are in the brackets [] and this is optional but also a descriptive word to persuade visitors to click which is at the end might be worth adding.
In a Video description the first few lines are vital for you to explain your video in short paragraph with at least 1/2 main keywords included, it's advised to write 250 or more words and include any links to a page that might be linked to your video or co-hosts & music creators.

Keywords! Now keywords can be misinterpreted by many people and some still believe this is the MAIN thing which will help boost your video and although it does help with search results if the keywords you're adding don't relate to the video you're doing... you're doing it wrong!

I'll use Battlefield 4 as an example again, the video is titled 'Battlefield 4 How not to Die - no really' and your description best describes what you've spoken about in the video e.g. learning maps / guns / load outs.. you should then add the same type of descriptive words in your keywords too. Don't overload your tags unless it's what you've spoken/shown in the video and relates to that specific video.

Thumbnails are powerful on YouTube and stand out sometimes more to people searching for what to watch, if your thumbnail looks amazing and has cool interesting pictures relating to the video you could gain a click, so make sure you try to add a clear easy to look at thumbnail to attract the visitor. It's good to try and keep Series thumbnails almost the same so viewers can find the next videos more easily and straight away.
