So a friend wants to build me a site of my own and have my videos stream there. It would still be a youtube video, just on my own site...

Is this allowed?

I don't see why not. :) If you own your videos and you own the site then there shouldn't be anything keeping you from uploading your videos there!

Better yet, if you just embed the videos then you'll still have ad-support from YouTube which can generate revenue for you. YouTube encourages people to embed videos because it spreads the content to a wider audience and it's one of the sharing options beneath a video.
