How do you earn "messages" in the forums?

Messages are how many posts you've made in the forum. However, not all posts count towards this number. (Certain sections of the forum are considered "just for fun" and don't count. I just don't remember off the top of my head which ones these are.)

Forum Fun and Games do not count towards your message count.
I think there might be one more that I cannot remember off the top of my head.

Messages are a number indicating the amount of threads and replies to threads you've made.
