how to get verified on youtube

hey, its my first time posting here but a question that i would like to ask is how do i get the youtube verified badge next to my name, i have heard that all you need to do is verify your youtube link in your google plus, but i cant get it to work, is there something im missing or do i need to do something else first.

Are you talking about the grey tick that you get next to your name on your channel?

If so YouTube has a criteria that you have to reach for them to verify your channel, this criteria is unknown to be honest. I think if you are partnered with a network sometimes they can submit the application for verification but it's not certain that they will verify you.

The rough guidelines are 10K subs and 1K views a day.
I have read that connecting your own verified website also works towards this process. I have connected my verified website to my Youtube, G+ Page and G+ Personal account but so far haven't gotten a glimpse of this to work.
