What is TubeBuddy and How it Works for YouTubers
When maintaining your vlogging channel, there’s many important tasks you’ve got to complete on a consistent basis in order to grow on YouTube. This is especially true when it comes to fine tuning your YouTube videos with great titles, descriptions, thumbnail images, tags, cards, and much more.
At times, this can be a lengthy process for YouTube vloggers (which by no means is a good excuse to stop or skip anything important). That being said, there’s something called TubeBuddy, which is dedicated to helping you save time in completing the essential tasks required to grow your YouTube channel.
The concept seems very cool, and we definitely wanted to learn more! So, we had a chat with Phil Starkovich (founder) to discuss TubeBuddy, and how it can be of benefit to the vlogging community on YouTube.
Great to have you join us! Could you tell us a bit about what TubeBuddy is, and how it works?
TubeBuddy is a browser extension built on the premise that creators should be able to spend more time creating videos and less time managing them. As a browser extension available on Chrome, Safari, FireFox and Opera, TubeBuddy integrates directly into YouTube’s website and nearly all of our tools can be accessed right from inside YouTube’s website.
For example, we add a TubeBuddy button next to every video on your My Videos page and users can click that button to access all TubeBuddy tools for that particular video. No need to log into an external website like most products.
What area of a YouTube creator’s channel strategy would you describe TubeBuddy to be helpful with?
There are many tedious tasks that people end up skipping even though they are extremely important for the success of their channel. For example, with each new upload, you should add Cards or Annotations to the videos, create a professional looking thumbnail, share the video across social networks, publish a copy to Facebook, optimize the title / tags / description and use your existing video to promote the new upload.
All of these items have a huge impact on the eventual success of a video and if done manually, could easily take hours. With TubeBuddy, the entire process takes just minutes.
Could you tell us a bit about the features that make TubeBuddy an effective option for YouTube creators?

When it comes to YouTube growth and optimization, what are some challenges that TubeBuddy can assist creators with?
TubeBuddy is packed with video optimization tools. Our Tag Explorer tool takes you on a deep dive into any topic. We show you what’s trending related to the topic, how competitive the topic is, what the top rankings videos are being tagged with, we show the auto-complete list from both YouTube and Google search and much more.
These are all things that people typically do by loading multiple browser tabs and researching outside YouTube but the beauty of TubeBuddy is that we bring all that data into YouTube. For your individual videos, we have a Suggested Tags tool that offers video-specific suggestions based on various key factors.
Many users have shared positive thoughts about TubeBuddy. What do you attribute that to?
We consider our users part of our team. Most of the tools that we have built have been requested directly from our customers. Having an open dialog and offering quick support shows our users that we genuinely care about them and want to provide the best product we can. We also focus on only including features that we believe people will truly benefit from and stay away from false promises and gimmicks.

Moving forward, what are you looking to achieve?
First of all, we’d like to start offering some TubeBuddy functionality for people on the go through their mobile phones. Currently, browsers on phones don’t support extensions so we need to figure out the best way to move forward with that plan. Secondly, although YouTube will always be the core of TubeBuddy, we do hope to start offering tools for other social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram as they build out video functionality on their platforms.
