OBS is the best recording software out there (free). Are you sure you are using settings that your PC can handle? I use ShadowPlay but you can only use that with specific NVIDIA graphics cards!

I haven't had any snow storms where I live but it's been in the minus temperatures and for myself it has been awful because I have to get up for work at 3am, which means it's freaking colder than ever!! :( But the summer is closing in on us and I am so excited for it!!! :D

Try using Audacity on your PC. It's a free program and very easy to use :) makes everything a lot simpler!
