Community Overhauled is finally here!

The Forum Team is excited to bring you a better experience interacting with the Freedom! Community via the forums. Our main focus with this update is to streamline the interface and really bring the community together with a user-friendly platform.

-But, what about 2.0?!

"2.0" was the project name for this update. Unfortunately "2.0" strayed from our original vision and became a little too ambitious. We did not end up being able to deliver what the beta testers have had a glimpse of (sorry!) So we went back to our roots and worked harder on our original vision.

So what does this update bring? (Patch notes)
  • A new look
    • This one's most obvious, the forums look completely different! We want to give you a new experience on the forums, we tailored a really nice looking theme to this community. This new theme will give us room to do a little more in terms of customization, so you may possibly see your own artwork on the banner if you're an artist!

Of course, if you're not ready to switch or just don't like the new theme, you can always switch back to "Freedom! Default" via your account preferences. We are aware that many users aren't logging into the new theme. You can also switch to the new theme here if it didn't automatically happen.

Click here to access your Account Preferences!

  • The first Freedom! Community event of 2016!
    • Last year we held an event on Easter and it was a success. This year, we want to much more of that! We want to hold as many events as we can to really bring the community together. So we're introducing Screenshot Guessing Game Event as our first event of 2016. There will be prizes!

Click here to learn more about the Screenshot Guessing Game Event!

  • A restructured node tree
    • The sections have always been really cluttered, as a result there were sections that were barely visited and this divided the community into smaller unnecessary groups. We have combined several sections to create a streamlined interface and larger communities where activity levels will be higher without excluding any content we previously offered.

We have also made better use of thread prefixes which will allows us to cut down on sections! This is a more efficient way to categorize threads and we think it'll make discovering content related to your interests easier. We understand that not everyone knows how to use the thread prefixes so there will be an FAQ thread on this soon.

Click here to learn how to use thread prefixes!

  • The re-introduction of the chat room
    • We know the veterans among us have missed this one and we're sure newer members will love using it too! We brought the chat room back with a different plugin which should be more reliable and more secure. The new chat room enables the Forum Team to offer you a much better experience.

  • "Back-end jibber jabber"
    • A big portion of this update has to do with "back-end" stuff. Essentially we have been working to clean up the back-end and make things run more efficiently.
What does this mean for the user?
Well this means we will be able to operate at a much better pace to bring the community more content (events, anyone?)

  • A new Xenforo version!
    • The Freedom! Community has finally upgraded to the latest version of the forum suite. This means there are many new features for you to use! One of them includes tagging your posts for better SEO. You will also notice the new widgets on the right side of the home page are useful for helping you discover new users and content.
This will not be the only exciting update to come in 2016 so stay tuned if you liked this one. We hope you're just excited about this update and the potential it brings as we are!

As a user who visits this place mostly during the night time, I dislike the new look.
I wasn't exactly a fan of the previous look either but I feel like the white on this is way too much and it is actually very painful to look at.
I hope you offer the users a choice of switching to a darker theme.
That sounds like something we'd like to add. Thanks for the idea! :)
